The 'Operational Excellence' buzzword is back

Every single town hall lately has been packed with talk about ‘Operational Excellence’ and ‘right-sizing our focus.’ We all know what that actually means in this industry. Last week, I counted three different emails about streamlining workflows, yet we have more redundant approvals than ever. It feels like they’re trying to build a case to trim headcount without actually saying the word layoff. I’m tired of the corporate gaslighting. If the numbers are as bad as the stock performance suggests, just rip the band-aid off so we can all move on. The constant waiting for the other shoe to drop is more exhausting than actually doing the work. Has anyone in the fiber divisions heard anything concrete about restructuring, or are we just spinning our wheels until the inevitable purge?

The 'Operational Excellence' script is getting old. I've been through enough of these cycles to know exactly how this ends. They start with the buzzwords about streamlining, follow up with mandatory 'efficiency' workshops, and then the mysterious access losses start appearing on a Tuesday morning. The irony is that the actual bottleneck is the middle-management layer they refuse to touch, while the people doing the real work get pushed out to save pennies on the balance sheet. It’s a transparent attempt to control the narrative before the next round of bad news drops.

Honestly, stop looking for meaning in the town halls. At this point, the leadership team is just reading from a playbook that was written a decade ago. Every time they use words like 'right-sizing' or 'optimizing the core,' it’s just noise meant to keep the shareholders from panicking for another quarter. We all see the writing on the wall, and the constant messaging just creates more anxiety than if they were actually honest for once. If you’re worried, update your resume now and start looking elsewhere—don't wait for the official notification to hit your inbox.
