Any rumors about the ConocoPhillips merger impact?

Is anyone hearing anything concrete about what happens to us once the deal officially closes? The messaging from leadership has been all 'business as usual' and 'synergies,' which we all know is corporate speak for 're-evaluate your headcount.' My manager keeps dodging questions about Q4 resource planning and it’s getting pretty transparent. I’ve noticed a lot of 'consultant' types floating around the office lately, doing process mapping and efficiency audits. Usually, that’s the death knell before a massive restructuring. If you’re in the back-office functions, are you seeing any changes to project approvals or budget freezes? I’m starting to get my resume polished just in case, because waiting until the announcement is a fool’s errand in this industry.

The consultant presence is definitely the smoking gun. I’ve seen this script play out in two previous industry mergers, and the 'synergy' talk is always code for cutting the redundant layers. If they are already mapping processes, they’ve likely identified the overlap and just haven't pulled the trigger on the RIF announcements yet. Start updating your resume now and reach out to your network before the market gets flooded with your colleagues. It’s better to be ahead of the curve than waiting for a calendar invite with a generic subject line.
