Marathon Oil: Any chatter about 2025 headcount targets?

Is anyone hearing anything concrete regarding budget planning for next year? Usually by this time, there’s some murmuring about divisional targets or shifts in project funding, but it feels eerily quiet at the office lately. I’ve noticed a lot more scrutiny on travel expenses and contractor renewals over the last month, which usually precedes some sort of structural adjustment. Everyone is keeping their heads down, but the hallway chatter has definitely shifted from 'growth' to 'efficiency.' Just wondering if this is localized to my department or if others are feeling the same squeeze. Would appreciate any insights from folks in different offices or upstream operations. Hard to know if it’s just standard end-of-year tightening or if we’re gearing up for something more significant after the holidays.

The shift toward efficiency is definitely real. I’ve noticed the same tightening on travel and outside consultants in my division. Management isn't saying much, but the mood is definitely cautious. If they were planning for expansion, we’d be hearing about headcount increases by now, not scrutinizing every single line item. Expect a flat or slightly reduced budget heading into Q1. Keep your resume updated just in case.

Honestly, I think everyone is bracing for a quiet Q1. The silence is usually the worst part, but it tracks with what we saw this time last year. Leadership is being very tight-lipped about the 2025 roadmap, which usually means they’re still shuffling the deck behind closed doors. Don’t hold your breath for any big hiring news; we’re clearly in 'wait and see' mode until the new fiscal plans are finalized.
