Marathon Oil: Anyone else noticing a hiring freeze, despite no official news?

Hey all, just wanted to see if anyone else at Marathon Oil is feeling this. There's been zero official word about layoffs, which is great and all, but lately, it feels like the tap has been turned off for new hires and even a lot of internal movements. My department was expecting a couple of new folks to join this quarter, and it's gone completely silent. Same with a few friends in other divisions – they've heard absolutely nothing concrete about roles opening up. It's making me a bit nervous, honestly. Is this just a seasonal slowdown, or is there something else brewing that management isn't sharing? Feels like a strange time to be tight on hiring when the market is still kind of unpredictable in our sector. Anyone else picking up on this vibe?

Yeah, I've definitely felt that too. It's weird because things seemed pretty robust just a few months ago. My team was gearing up to bring on a couple of people, and suddenly it's like everything is on hold. No communication, just silence. Makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Hopefully, it's just a temporary pause and not a sign of bigger issues down the line. I'm trying not to jump to conclusions, but it's hard not to be a little concerned when you see hiring slow to a crawl without any explanation.

I've been hearing similar chatter. It's not just your department; seems to be a company-wide vibe. Even internal transfers are hitting roadblocks, which is usually a good indicator of belt-tightening.
