Is the Houston office thinning out even more?

I’ve been watching the WARN notices hit the wire lately and it’s getting pretty quiet on the floor. With the 500 roles cut back in May finally getting updated in the recent reporting, I’m wondering if anyone else has caught wind of what’s coming in Q1. My manager has been acting weird during our 1:1s, constantly pivoting toward 'operational efficiency' and 'realigning resources' every time I bring up project roadmaps for next year. It feels like the writing is on the wall, but nobody wants to say it out loud. Are we looking at another round of involuntary cuts, or are they going to keep playing the slow-burn game with these back-to-back small layoffs? Just trying to figure out if I should start polishing the resume now or wait until the next town hall. Honestly, the morale here is at an all-time low. If you’ve heard anything regarding specific departments or if the rumors about the Houston headcount reduction are actually worse than what’s being reported, drop a hint.

The 'operational efficiency' buzzwords are the classic precursor to the next round of layoffs. I’ve been through this cycle a few times, and whenever management starts dancing around project roadmaps, it’s because those projects won't exist in a few months. If your manager is acting evasive, they definitely know more than they're letting on. Start cleaning up your resume and networking outside the company immediately; don't wait for the official email to start looking for a parachute.

Honestly, take the hint and start preparing. The Houston office has felt like a ghost town for weeks, and the WARN notices are just the public confirmation of what we've all been feeling. If leadership is pivoting to 'resource realignment' while giving you non-answers about next year, they’re already trimming the fat. It’s better to have your options open before the severance packages get finalized. Good luck, hope you land something stable soon.
