Anyone else seeing the backfill freeze?

Following the news about the Cumberland site cuts, I’ve been watching the internal portal like a hawk. It’s not just the 385 people directly impacted; the fallout seems to be triggering a total freeze on open headcount across corporate support roles. I have a buddy in HR who mentioned that even the approved requisitions are being pulled back for 're-evaluation.' Does anyone know if this is a localized cost-cutting measure for the fiscal quarter or is this a signal for a wider RIF coming before Q3? The silence from leadership is deafening, as usual. We’re all sitting here keeping our heads down, but the energy in the virtual meetings is honestly pretty toxic. If you're in a support function, stay alert.

I’m seeing the same thing over in my department. It feels like the writing is on the wall for a much broader push. When they pull requisitions that were already signed off on, it’s rarely just about the current quarter. My manager won't say a word, but the silence from leadership speaks volumes. Expecting an announcement in the next few weeks is probably the safe play at this point. Start updating your resume now just in case.

Honestly, it’s standard procedure leading into the end of the year to tighten the belt, but this feels different. The backfill freeze combined with the Cumberland situation suggests they are trying to trim the fat across the board before the next fiscal review. It’s stressful, but don't panic yet. Sometimes they do this to hit arbitrary margin targets for the Street. Just keep your head down and track the internal job board closely for any sudden deletions.
