Stagnant growth and management rumors

Been with McCormick for a few years now, and the sentiment internally feels like we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop. We keep hearing about 'optimizing our portfolio' and 'efficiency gains,' which we all know is corporate-speak for cutting headcount. I’ve noticed a lot of backfilling positions getting stalled indefinitely, and the budget cuts for simple operational tools are getting ridiculous. It feels like the company is trying to squeeze every drop of productivity out of us before they announce a reduction. I don’t think anything is confirmed yet, but the writing is on the wall. I’ve started passively applying to other CPG firms just in case, because I have zero faith that leadership would be transparent with us until the very last second. Has anyone else noticed their department shrinking or losing roles recently?

I’ve been seeing the exact same thing at my site. The 'efficiency' talk is getting louder every quarter, but it never seems to translate into better workflows—just more hoops to jump through. I’ve noticed the same hiring freeze on backfills, which just means the rest of us are drowning in extra tasks that aren’t in our job descriptions. It’s hard to stay motivated when you’re doing the work of two people while being told there’s no budget for basic upgrades. The energy in the office is definitely shifting, and it’s not for the better.

Look, it's a legacy company trying to pivot, but the execution feels like a slow-motion car crash. They lean on the brand name while bleeding the people who actually maintain it. You’re not imagining the stagnation; it’s baked into the current strategy. When headcount gets slashed to pad the margins, the culture dies a little more every day. Everyone is just polishing their resumes and waiting for the next round of announcements. If you’re feeling squeezed, it’s because you are. Don't wait for them to figure it out—start looking elsewhere while the market is still decent.
