Projects getting 'paused indefinitely' - normal or a sign?

So, a couple of projects I was directly involved in just got 'paused indefinitely' this week. The official reason given was 'shifting strategic priorities'. Sound familiar to anyone? It wasn't a cancellation, just... stopped. Cold. My manager was super vague about it, just said to focus on other 'high-priority' tasks. Which, of course, haven't materialized yet. It's just weird because these were projects that seemed to be moving along just fine. Now I'm sitting here with reduced workload and a bad feeling. Is this just how McDonald's does things, or is this the prelude to something bigger? Feels like we're all just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

That 'shifting strategic priorities' line is corporate speak for 'we don't know what we're doing, but we need to sound like we do'. Honestly, indefinite pauses usually mean they're either waiting to see if a miracle happens, or they're trying to figure out how to quietly kill it without admitting it was a bad idea in the first place. Enjoy the downtime, but start updating that resume. It's a classic 'prepare for the worst' signal.

This sounds like a classic McDonald's scenario. Remember when they announced that big breakfast menu expansion, only to quietly scale it back a year later? Or the McRib's 'limited time only' status that seems to last forever then disappear without a trace? 'Indefinitely paused' feels like the corporate equivalent of just leaving something on the grill too long – it's not completely ruined, but nobody's really sure what to do with it anymore.
