McKesson - More internal transfers than external hires lately?

Been at McKesson for a few years now, and I've noticed a shift. For a while, it felt like we were constantly bringing in new people from outside for various roles. Recently though, it seems like a lot of the open positions, or at least the ones that get filled, are going to internal folks. Recruiters are still active, but the pace feels different, and the external pipeline seems to have slowed down considerably. Anyone else observing this? Is it a strategic move to promote from within, or could it be a sign of belt-tightening where they're prioritizing existing resources and potentially reducing the need for as many new hires? Curious to hear other perspectives on this trend.

I've definitely seen that trend too. Seems like a lot of the teams I interact with are prioritizing internal candidates. It could be a cost-saving measure, or perhaps they're really trying to invest in employee development and retention. It's interesting to see how it plays out long-term – whether it leads to more experienced internal leadership or potentially a more stagnant talent pool if external perspectives aren't being brought in.

Interesting observation! I've noticed it on my team as well. We had a few roles open up and they were all filled by people already within McKesson. My guess is it's a combination of things. Maybe it's more efficient and cost-effective to promote from within, and it also keeps morale up knowing there are growth opportunities. It'll be curious to see if this continues or if they bring back a more robust external hiring strategy.
