Medtronic: Are managers suddenly asking for 're-org' plans without any context?

Lately, my manager has been asking for proposals on how our team could be 'restructured for efficiency'. It feels a bit out of the blue. We haven't had any major shifts in strategy that I'm aware of, and everyone's been hitting their targets. Now they're asking about potential role consolidations and cross-training initiatives that seem really broad. It's making people nervous, wondering if this is a precursor to something bigger or just some corporate buzzword bingo happening at a higher level. Anyone else getting these vague 're-org' mandates without clear reasons or goals? Feels like a lot of energy is being spent on this right now, and it's not really clear what the endgame is. Kind of feels like they're trying to justify something without saying what it is. Just trying to get a pulse on if this is happening elsewhere.

My manager's been doing the same thing! It's incredibly unsettling to be asked to devise restructuring plans without any clear direction or understanding of the 'why'. We're all working hard and meeting objectives, so this sudden push for efficiency proposals feels like we're being set up for something. I've heard whispers about budget cuts being a potential driver, but nothing concrete. It's creating a lot of anxiety and speculation among colleagues, and frankly, it's impacting morale. I hope there's a logical explanation beyond just corporate jargon soon.
