Medtronic: Performance reviews feel… different this year?

Hey everyone, jumping in here because I've been feeling a weird vibe around performance reviews this cycle at Medtronic. Usually, it's a pretty standard process, but this year it feels like there's a lot more emphasis on 'justifying your existence' and hitting metrics that seem… arbitrary? My manager has been pushing really hard on certain KPIs that don't feel directly tied to our actual team output. It's making me a bit uneasy. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this just my department, or is it a company-wide thing? Part of me wonders if this is a lead-up to something, or just a new management initiative. Trying to stay positive but it’s hard when the goalposts feel like they're constantly shifting and the pressure is on for reviews. Anyone have insights into what might be driving this shift?

I've noticed a similar shift in my team as well. The pressure to highlight specific achievements feels amplified, almost as if we have to prove our value beyond just doing our jobs. It's creating an undercurrent of anxiety, and I'm finding it harder to focus on the actual work when so much energy is being spent on framing it. Hoping it's a temporary adjustment.

Interesting to hear this is happening elsewhere. My experience has been less about justifying existence and more about a subtle narrowing of what's considered 'successful' performance. It feels like certain types of contributions that aren't easily quantifiable are being de-emphasized, which is a bit disheartening given the collaborative nature of our projects. Definitely something to watch.
