Quiet adjustments at corporate/DSCs?

Has anyone else noticed the uptick in 'performance management' talk lately? I’ve been at the corporate office for a few years, and the vibe has shifted significantly over the last month. We used to have open communication about team goals, but now it feels like every manager is keeping their cards close to their chest. A few people on my floor just vanished from the internal directory without any 'farewell' emails, which is really out of character for how we usually operate. I’m starting to wonder if we’re looking at a stealth reduction in force rather than a formal announcement. Is anyone seeing similar headcount freezes or sudden project cancellations in their department? Just trying to gauge if I should be dusting off the resume this weekend or if I'm just being paranoid because of the retail climate right now.

It’s definitely noticeable. I’m at one of the DSCs and the atmosphere has shifted from collaborative to strictly transactional over the last few weeks. The 'performance management' terminology is being thrown around in every meeting now, which usually precedes something larger. It’s hard to focus on daily tasks when you see people you’ve worked with for years suddenly scrubbed from the system without a word. The lack of transparency from leadership is creating a lot of unnecessary anxiety on the floor, and frankly, it feels like they’re preparing for a headcount reduction before the end of the quarter.

Hang in there. I’ve seen this cycle happen a few times before, and unfortunately, the silence from management is usually intentional. They want to keep everyone focused on output while they quietly reorganize behind the scenes. Those directory disappearances are a massive red flag—it’s never a good sign when the usual farewell protocols are ignored. Just keep your head down, document your own wins, and make sure your resume is updated. It’s a stressful time to be here, but don't take the sudden shifts personally; it’s just the standard corporate playbook.
