Anyone else feeling the pressure on new hires and project funding?

Hey everyone, been at Merck for a few years now and things feel... different lately. There haven't been any official announcements, but I'm noticing a definite slowdown in hiring for roles that were previously quite active. My team had an open position we were actively recruiting for, and it just got put on hold indefinitely with no clear explanation. On top of that, I'm hearing more chatter about projects needing extra layers of approval for even small budget increases. It's not outright panic, but the vibe is definitely more cautious. Wondering if this is a company-wide thing or if I'm just in a particularly affected area. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this just standard budget cycle stuff, or is something bigger brewing?

Yeah, I've been feeling that too. It's unsettling not having a clear reason. I've noticed a lot more scrutiny on expenses across the board, even for things that used to be routine. It makes you wonder what's on the horizon. Hopefully, it's just a temporary adjustment and things will pick back up soon.

Definitely. The hiring freeze on my team's role was a surprise, especially since it's a critical area. And you're right about the project funding – it feels like every dollar is being questioned. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but it's hard not to worry when you see these shifts happening without much communication.
