Anyone else seeing their team/dept getting leaner unofficially?

So, I haven't heard anything concrete about layoffs, and there's no official announcement, but it feels like my department is slowly shrinking. We had a couple of people leave for other opportunities recently, and no one's been backfilled. Then, there's the talk about 'streamlining' and 'focusing on core competencies.' My direct manager is suddenly very cagey about future projects and headcount projections. It's making it hard to plan anything, and frankly, it's creating a lot of anxiety. Is this just me, or are others experiencing a quiet drawdown in their areas? Feels like a slow bleed rather than a sudden cut, which is almost worse sometimes. Just trying to gauge the temperature across the company.

I'm sensing something similar. While no one's explicitly saying layoffs, the workload just keeps increasing for those of us remaining. New hires seem few and far between, and there's a definite feeling of 'do more with less' being the unofficial motto. It’s unsettling, to say the least, and makes you wonder about the long-term stability.

It's definitely a vibe. My team hasn't seen any departures, but we're definitely being asked to take on more responsibility without any additional resources. The usual 'efficiency drives' feel a bit more intense lately, and there's a hushed conversation about strategic realignments. Hard to ignore the feeling that things are shifting, even if it’s not openly communicated.
