Anyone else seeing weird hiring freezes at Merck?

Been trying to get a couple of crucial roles filled in my team for months now, and suddenly it's like the gates slammed shut. HR keeps saying 'budget review' and 'strategic realignment,' which sounds like corporate speak for 'no new headcount.' We're already stretched thin, and this isn't helping morale. Saw a couple of external job postings disappear overnight too, which is odd. This isn't a layoff report because I haven't seen anyone actually let go, but it sure feels like a precursor. Is anyone else experiencing this? What's the vibe in other departments? Trying to understand if this is a broad signal or just our little corner of Merck being squeezed. Any insights would be appreciated.

Yeah, I'm noticing something similar on my end. My team's been trying to backfill a senior position for ages, and suddenly it's like all requisitions are on indefinite hold. The usual channels aren't yielding any real answers either, just vague pronouncements about 'review periods.' It's definitely creating a ripple effect of stress, especially with the workload we're already carrying. It's a strange time to be trying to grow or even maintain team capacity.

Can confirm. The 'strategic realignment' excuse is getting old. We had a promising candidate lined up for a key role, and then poof, the role was quietly put on pause. It's frustrating because it feels like a lack of transparency. Are they restructuring? Is there an acquisition in the works? The silence is unnerving and makes planning incredibly difficult. Morale is definitely taking a hit when people feel like their team's needs are being sidelined without clear communication.
