Budget scrutiny feels intense right now

Been at Merck for a few years and this is the first time I've seen such intense scrutiny on even minor expenses. Little things like travel approvals, training budgets, even software subscriptions are getting questioned like never before. We used to have a bit more autonomy, but now everything feels like it needs multiple layers of approval. It makes you wonder if this is a precursor to something more significant. Are they trying to conserve cash or just tightening the belt? It's creating a bit of a stressful atmosphere when you have to justify every dollar spent. Curious if this is company-wide or just specific to my division.

I've noticed it too. It seems like every department is feeling the pinch. It’s definitely a shift from how things were even a year or two ago. While some level of fiscal responsibility is expected, this feels like it's impacting day-to-day operations and slowing down progress. Hoping it's just a temporary phase.

Interesting to hear others are feeling this. My team has been experiencing the same thing with budget reviews. It's making project planning much more complicated when you can't be sure if smaller requests will even get off the ground. Makes you wonder what the overall financial strategy is looking like behind the scenes.
