It is honestly exhausting watching this cycle repeat. Every couple of years, they pull the same 'optimizing the network' routine while the leadership team keeps padding their pockets. Montour was a solid facility with dedicated people, and losing 163 colleagues is a massive blow to the local culture. Those 'value-driven' corporate emails are just cold comfort when families are suddenly dealing with uncertainty. If you were hit today, take the time you need to breathe before worrying about the next step. This company has changed so much, and not for the better.
I was expecting some sort of consolidation after the last quarterly report, but 163 is a much higher number than the rumors suggested. It feels like the strategy is shifting toward leaner operations regardless of the impact on site morale or institutional knowledge. I feel for everyone affected at Montour; it’s a gut punch to get that invite out of nowhere. Make sure you get your documentation in order today while you still have system access. Look out for each other and reach out to your networks—there’s a lot of talent walking out the door today.
