Is it just me or has the push for 'efficiency' and 'cost savings' ramped up significantly across Merck recently? I'm in [mention a vague department like R&D or Operations] and we're getting bombarded with requests to cut costs, streamline processes, and do 'more with less'. It's starting to feel like they're setting the stage for something. My manager is being cagey when asked direct questions about headcount or future plans. Has anyone else experienced this intensified focus on efficiency? Are there specific initiatives being rolled out that feel like they're paving the way for reductions? Just want to gauge if this is a company-wide push or if I'm in a particularly scrutinized area. It’s making me a bit anxious about job security, to be honest.

Yeah, I'm definitely feeling it too. Seems like every meeting lately has some variation of 'how can we do this cheaper/faster?'. It's understandable from a business perspective, I guess, but it's starting to impact morale and honestly, the quality of the work if we're constantly rushed. Just hoping this isn't a precursor to major layoffs or something worse down the line. Keep your head down and do your best, but it's definitely a tense atmosphere right now.

Totally agree. It feels like a significant shift from even six months ago. There's a lot of pressure to justify every expense and resource. People are worried about job security, and understandably so, when there's so much talk about optimization. Management's silence on specifics doesn't help. Just trying to stay focused on my deliverables and hope for clarity soon. It's a tough environment to navigate when the direction feels uncertain.
