Is Merck experiencing a soft freeze? Hiring seems to have stalled.

Lately, it feels like every req I look at is either on hold or moving at a snail's pace. Used to be you'd see new roles popping up regularly, but it's been pretty quiet for a while now. Even internal transfers seem to be taking longer than usual. Anyone else in different departments noticing this? It's not just one or two teams, it feels more widespread across the board. Trying to figure out if this is a deliberate strategy, a sign of budget tightening, or just a temporary slowdown before a big push. My manager is being tight-lipped, just saying 'things are being evaluated'. Anyone have any intel or experiencing something similar?

I've definitely noticed a similar trend. The pipeline for new positions seems much thinner than it was even six months ago. My team's been trying to backfill a critical role for what feels like an eternity, and the process has been incredibly drawn out with minimal updates. It's making it hard to plan and feels like resources are being stretched thin across existing projects. Hopefully, it's just a temporary adjustment period.

Yeah, the slowdown is palpable across several departments I interact with. There's a lot of speculation about the reasons, ranging from upcoming restructuring rumors to a more cautious approach to financial planning for the next fiscal year.
