Is Merck's leadership sending mixed signals about the future?

Been at Merck for a while now, and honestly, things feel… off. We keep hearing about innovation and growth, but then you look at internal reorganizations and resource allocation, and it seems like we're pulling back in some key areas. Management keeps talking about our strong pipeline, but I haven't seen significant breakthroughs announced in ages that excite me. There's a lot of talk about 'efficiency' and 'streamlining' which, from my experience, often precedes a headcount reduction. The vibe on the floor is a mix of nervous chatter and forced optimism. People are definitely watching each other, and there's a sense that loyalty might not be as valued as it used to be. Anyone else picking up on these conflicting messages? Is this just my department or is it a company-wide thing?

I've felt that disconnect too. The messaging around future potential versus current operational decisions feels like a balancing act that's tipping. It's hard to stay motivated when the day-to-day doesn't seem to align with the grand vision being presented. Hoping the pipeline actually delivers some exciting news soon to course-correct.

Management's focus on efficiency is definitely raising eyebrows. While some streamlining is expected, it's the apparent contradiction between that and the stated goals of aggressive growth and innovation that's causing concern. It's a difficult environment when you're unsure if your efforts are truly aligned with where the company is headed.
