Is the Montour exit just the beginning for the PA footprint?

I’ve been watching the WARN notices for the Montour site and it’s honestly disheartening to see the headcount drop like this. I know leadership always uses the 'strategic realignment' buzzword, but does anyone actually believe we are done here? The vibe in the office lately is incredibly tense, and it feels like every department is waiting for the other shoe to drop. I’ve heard whispers that management is looking to consolidate even more operations outside of PA, but it’s all hearsay so far. If you're currently at a PA site, are you guys seeing any signs of a wind-down, or is it business as usual for the moment? Just trying to get a read on whether I should be polishing my resume now or if I’m just being paranoid. Any insight from people who have been through previous Merck restructurings would be appreciated.

The 'strategic realignment' talk is just a polished way of saying they’re cutting costs to boost shareholder value at the expense of loyal employees. If you’re seeing these trends in the WARN notices, it’s rarely a one-time event. Corporations like Merck tend to move in waves, slowly draining regional footprints until only the bare minimum remains. Don’t wait for an official announcement to protect yourself; start updating your network and exploring options now while the job market is still somewhat stable. Loyalty is a one-way street in these types of organizations.

I wouldn't hold my breath for things to stabilize anytime soon. Every time we hear about consolidation, it’s usually the first step of a much larger plan that upper management keeps under wraps to prevent mass turnover before they're ready. The tension you’re feeling in the office is likely spot on. These moves are rarely isolated, and the company has been shifting its focus away from these legacy sites for years. Keep your head down, do your job, but definitely keep your eyes open for other opportunities. It’s better to be ahead of the curve than caught in the next round of cuts.
