Merck - What's the deal with 'voluntary' separation packages?

Has anyone else been approached about 'voluntary separation' opportunities recently at Merck? It's being framed as a chance to 'explore new horizons' and 'prioritize personal goals,' but it feels like a thinly veiled way to reduce headcount without a formal layoff. They're offering what sounds like a decent package, but the timing is making me super nervous. My team isn't in a particularly high-risk area, but you never know. It feels like they're trying to get people to self-select out. Has anyone taken one of these packages? What was your experience like? Are they being offered broadly or targeted? I'm trying to figure out if this is a company-wide push or something specific to certain divisions. Worried about job security and wondering if this is a good time to start polishing the resume, just in case.
