Merck internal movements feeling slow - anyone else notice?

Hey all, been at Merck for a few years now in R&D, and lately things just feel... stagnant. Hiring seems to have completely dried up for roles I'd typically see openings for. Internal transfers are also taking ages, if they're even happening. Managers seem hesitant to post new positions, and there's a general quietness about future projects. It's not a layoff announcement, per se, but it definitely has a 'belt-tightening' vibe. My team's workload is still high, but there's no indication of new hires or even contractor renewals. Just wondering if others across different departments are experiencing similar slowdowns or a shift in internal dynamics. Curious to hear your takes.

I've definitely picked up on that too. Been in a different division for a while, but the chatter about hiring freezes and slower internal mobility is widespread. It feels like a strategic pause rather than anything drastic, but it's definitely noticeable and impacting morale. Makes you wonder what the long-term plan is.

Interesting to hear this echoed. While I'm not in R&D, the sense of inertia has been palpable across several departments. It's a bit unsettling when you're used to a more dynamic environment. Hopefully, this is a temporary phase and things pick up soon, especially with the promising pipelines.
