Seeing some odd budget cuts across departments at Merck

Hey all, been with Merck for a few years now and lately, I'm noticing some pretty significant budget restrictions trickling down. It's not just 'nice-to-haves' being cut; we're talking about essential travel, training budgets slashed, and even some R&D project scopes being tightened more than usual. No official word from leadership on layoffs, but this feels like a precursor to something. My manager is tight-lipped, just saying 'efficiency measures'. Anyone else in different therapeutic areas or sites seeing similar trends? Is this just a general economic belt-tightening or something specific to Merck? Starting to make me nervous about job security, especially with the current pharma landscape.

Yeah, I'm seeing similar things in my division. It's definitely a bit unsettling when the purse strings tighten unexpectedly. The lack of clear communication is the worst part, makes it hard to plan or even understand the rationale. Hopefully, it's just a temporary recalibration and not a sign of deeper issues. Keep us posted if you hear anything concrete.

Interesting you bring this up. We've been told it's about 'strategic resource allocation' but the cuts feel pretty broad. Less funding for conferences and even some internal software licenses are being re-evaluated. It's making it harder to get necessary resources for ongoing projects. Wondering if this is a company-wide initiative or specific to certain business units.
