4 AM email notification hits different when you’re just trying to sleep

Woke up at 4:15 AM to my phone buzzing incessantly. The subject line was the standard 'important update regarding your role,' and I knew exactly what it was before I even unlocked the screen. It feels incredibly cowardly to do it via a mass blast in the middle of the night. No manager conversation, no 'we appreciate your years of service,' just a cut-and-paste notice telling me my access was revoked effective immediately. I’ve spent the last three years grinding on core infrastructure, only to be told that the company needs to pivot hard into AI and my seat is no longer required. The irony is that the team they are cutting is the one that actually keeps the platform stable enough for their fancy new AI agents to run on. I have friends who were on parental leave or dealing with health issues who also got the axe. If the rumors about the selection process being automated are true, this place has completely lost its soul. I'm currently looking at the severance package and wondering how they can justify this while simultaneously dumping billions into hardware that won't show ROI for another decade. Honestly, I’m just trying to figure out if it’s worth fighting or if I should just take the bridge and move on to a company that doesn't view employees as purely overhead.
