Just saw the news about the 8000 layoffs. Honestly, I'm still processing. The justification about focusing on AI feels... thin? Especially when so many people I know, across different teams, were let go. It wasn't just the AI org. My entire pod is gone, and we were working on foundational stuff, not bleeding-edge AI research. Feels like a blanket cut disguised as a strategic pivot. Anyone else’s team get wiped out despite not being directly in AI development? Trying to understand if this was truly targeted or just a massive, indiscriminate cull. The lack of clear communication is deafening. Feels like we're just numbers on a spreadsheet being shuffled around. What are people hearing on the ground, if anything?

Completely blindsided. I've been here for years, pouring my energy into projects that were deemed critical. Then suddenly, poof. The reasoning about future focus feels like a convenient excuse for a decision that was likely made much earlier. It's disheartening to see so much talent and dedication just... dismissed. Hard to see this as anything other than a severe miscalculation or perhaps a panic move. The impact on morale and productivity moving forward will be immense, and I'm not sure they've truly grasped that.

Yeah, 'restructuring' feels like a euphemism for a massive culling. My team was also impacted, and we were nowhere near the areas supposedly being prioritized. It's the lack of clear communication and the feeling that individual contributions didn't matter in the end that's the most upsetting part. Feels like a lot of us were just numbers on a spreadsheet, easily sacrificed for a headline. Trying to stay positive, but it's tough when your work suddenly means nothing.
