8k cuts while still pouring money into new tech?

So, we just went through another massive layoff, 8,000 people gone. And yet, the news keeps hammering on how Meta is *still* investing billions into building out its infrastructure for, you guessed it, artificial intelligence. It's hard to reconcile. We're losing thousands of jobs, people are scrambling, and the company seems to be doubling down on the very tech that might have even contributed to these cuts or is the reason for prioritizing it over other areas. Does this make sense to anyone? Feels like a huge disconnect between the people losing their livelihoods and the company's future vision. Is this just the brutal reality of tech now, or is there a strategic angle I'm missing? Feels like we're just numbers to fund the next big thing.

It feels like a classic case of shifting priorities, doesn't it? They're clearly betting big on AI as the next frontier, and that requires significant upfront investment in talent and infrastructure. From a purely business perspective, they might see it as essential for future growth and staying competitive. However, the human cost of these large-scale reductions is undeniable and makes it tough to swallow, especially when you hear about massive new projects getting funded.

I can see the disconnect. On one hand, you have the harsh reality of layoffs impacting livelihoods, creating anxiety and uncertainty for those remaining. On the other, there's the forward-looking vision of pioneering new technologies that the company believes will define its future. It's a difficult balancing act between immediate operational efficiency and long-term strategic development. Hopefully, the investments pay off and lead to new opportunities down the line, but it's a tough pill to swallow right now.
