Anyone else suspect they used our performance data to pick who went?

Just got the news today, 8000 of us. I'm trying to process it all but honestly, I feel blindsided. I've been here for years, always hitting my numbers, never any formal warnings. But reading some of the stuff online, I can't shake this feeling that it wasn't just about restructuring. Has anyone heard anything about how they actually made the selections? I keep seeing mentions of algorithms and data, and it makes me wonder if our actual contributions mattered, or if some automated system just flagged people based on metrics I don't even understand. It feels incredibly impersonal and frankly, unfair if that's the case. Trying to stay calm but it's hard when you feel like you were just a number in a spreadsheet.

It's incredibly frustrating to think that years of hard work and consistent performance might have been disregarded in favor of an algorithm. The lack of transparency is the worst part. It breeds distrust and makes you question everything about your time at the company. Hopefully, more information comes out soon so people can understand the decisions made, even if it doesn't make them any easier to accept.

I completely understand that feeling of being blindsided. When layoffs happen, especially without clear communication, it's natural to look for patterns and explanations. The idea that performance data might be used in opaque ways is worrying. It would be far more reassuring if management could provide some insight into the criteria used, rather than leaving everyone to speculate based on rumors and assumptions.
