Lawsuits claiming unfair layoffs - is there any truth to it?

Seeing a lot of chatter about lawsuits claiming the company used some kind of automated system to select people for layoffs, specifically mentioning things like medical leave and parental leave. Honestly, it makes me wonder. When they were handing out pink slips, it felt so random for some people, and then for others it felt… targeted? I know someone who was on medical leave and got cut. Another friend was pregnant and received the news. It's hard not to connect the dots, even if it's just a gut feeling. Has anyone else heard specific details or have personal experiences that make these lawsuit claims seem plausible? Trying to understand if there was a deliberate bias at play, or if it was just a messy process.

This is incredibly concerning if true. While companies have the right to downsize, using automated systems that might flag individuals on protected leave is absolutely unacceptable and potentially illegal. It would explain the feeling of randomness mixed with targeted outcomes some people experienced. I hope these lawsuits get to the bottom of it and hold the company accountable if any wrongdoing occurred.

I've heard similar whispers about the layoff process feeling more like a lottery than a strategic decision in some cases. The idea of an algorithm deciding someone's fate, especially if it inadvertently penalizes protected statuses like medical or parental leave, is pretty chilling. It's a tough situation for everyone involved, and transparency about the criteria used would be appreciated by many.
