Layoffs and the AI lawsuits - is there smoke without fire?

Seeing a lot of noise online about these recent 8000 layoffs at Meta and how AI was supposedly involved in selecting people. The lawsuits claiming discrimination based on things like medical leave or parental leave really caught my eye. It feels like a huge leap if true – using algorithms to make these incredibly personal decisions. Has anyone here heard anything more concrete or experienced anything that makes them believe these claims? Or is it just the usual post-layoff churn of speculation and legal action? It's hard to know what to believe when these huge companies are involved. The sheer scale of the layoffs is shocking enough, but the idea of it being driven by code that might have a built-in bias is pretty disturbing.
