Suits alleging algorithmic discrimination for layoffs - anyone seeing this?

So, I've been seeing a lot of chatter and now actual lawsuits popping up claiming Meta used some kind of automated system to make layoff decisions, even allegedly targeting people who were on medical leave or parental leave. Has anyone else heard this or experienced anything that makes them think this is true? It's one thing to have layoffs, which is brutal enough, but to think that an algorithm might have been the deciding factor, and potentially a biased one, is pretty unsettling. It makes the whole process feel even more dehumanizing. Trying to get a sense if this is just noise or if there's genuine merit to these claims. Anyone have any insider info or thoughts on this?

This is a really disturbing claim. If true, it points to a massive ethical failure. Algorithms are supposed to remove bias, not embed and amplify it. The idea of being pushed out based on a cold, unfeeling system, especially while on leave, is deeply concerning. It raises questions about transparency and accountability in how these platforms operate beyond just their user-facing features. Definitely something to watch.

Wow, that's a serious accusation. I hadn't heard specifics about Meta using algorithms for layoffs, but it's not entirely surprising given how much AI is integrated into everything these days. The thought of an automated process making such life-altering decisions, particularly if it disadvantages people on medical or parental leave, is pretty chilling. It highlights the need for careful oversight and human review, even in tech-driven environments.
