The 'AI-first' transition is just cover for bad management

Is anyone else tired of the constant goalpost moving? First, we were told to focus on efficiency, then we pivoted to the metaverse, and now it’s all about AI agents replacing actual roles. Watching 8,000 people get the boot just so the company can shift more capital into hardware and infrastructure is beyond frustrating. It feels like we are being treated as the sacrificial lambs for a massive bet that hasn't even hit profitability yet. I see the 'AI-agent' project internal documentation and it's mostly smoke and mirrors. They are trimming the fat on operational teams and engineers who have been here for years, all to satisfy Wall Street’s current obsession. I’m currently updating my resume and looking at my options outside of Big Tech. The culture has shifted so far away from supporting the people who actually built the platform that it’s barely recognizable. If you’re still standing, good luck—you’re probably next on the list when the next quarterly projection misses by a fraction.

It is exhausting to watch leadership flip the strategy every eighteen months while the workforce pays the price. They frame these pivots as visionary, but it really just looks like they have no concrete plan for long-term stability. Constantly gutting teams to fund expensive new infrastructure shows that they prioritize shareholder optics over the people who actually built the platform. When the focus shifts this rapidly, institutional knowledge evaporates, leaving everyone else to scramble and pick up the pieces of whatever experiment was abandoned last quarter.

Honestly, the constant restructuring has created a culture where nobody feels secure enough to do deep, meaningful work. You spend months building out a product or process, only for the entire department to be gutted because the wind shifted toward a different buzzword. It is not just about the layoffs; it is about the blatant disregard for the expertise that was supposed to be the backbone of the company. It feels like we are just being cycled through to keep the stock price propped up while the actual core product suffers from neglect.
