MetLife - Anyone else seeing hiring freezes/slowdowns?

Curious to hear if anyone else at MetLife has noticed a significant slowdown in hiring or if new roles are even being posted. My department's been talking about backfilling some positions that opened up a while ago, but it seems like everything is on hold indefinitely. Recruiters I've spoken to externally are also mentioning a tougher market overall, but it feels particularly pronounced here right now. I'm not seeing any direct layoff announcements, which is good, but this feels like a potential precursor. Are budgets being tightened more than usual? Is the focus shifting to internal mobility or retaining current staff at all costs? Just trying to get a pulse on the ground. Any information or even just shared feelings would be helpful to gauge the situation. Trying to plan my next steps but it's hard without more clarity.

Yeah, I've definitely felt a chill on the hiring front over here too. It seems like approvals are taking much longer, and a lot of requisitions that were active a few months ago are now sitting in limbo. My manager mentioned that even for critical roles, the process has become incredibly drawn out. It's making it tough to bring in needed talent, and the uncertainty is a bit unsettling, though thankfully no mass layoffs are being discussed.

Interesting to hear someone else bring this up. We're experiencing something similar in my area. It feels like the focus has shifted heavily towards retention and internal mobility rather than external hires. While I understand the need for caution in the current economic climate, the lack of new blood and the difficulty filling existing gaps is starting to put a strain on teams. Fingers crossed things pick up soon, but it's definitely a different vibe than it was a year ago.
