Heard whispers about potential cuts in the gaming division - anyone know anything?

A friend of a friend works in HR for the gaming division, and they mentioned some rumblings about potential restructuring and layoffs, possibly targeting some of the older studios. Apparently, it's all still very hush-hush, and nothing is confirmed, but it's enough to make me nervous. I've been with Xbox Game Studios for 5 years now, and I really love what I do. If anyone has any credible information, even if it's just a gut feeling, please share. Trying to figure out if I should be worried or just chalk it up to the usual Microsoft paranoia.

I hate to hear that, especially with how much Microsoft has been acquiring lately. Feels like they're spreading themselves thin. Five years is a good chunk of time, though, so hopefully, you've built up some seniority. Start quietly updating your resume and LinkedIn profile, just in case. It's always better to be prepared than caught off guard. Maybe start networking with people in other divisions, too, just to have options. Good luck!

Take everything with a massive grain of salt. "Friend of a friend" is usually code for completely fabricated nonsense. I remember similar rumors swirling around before the Activision Blizzard acquisition, and nothing happened then. MS is a big company, and there are always rumors flying around. If your work is solid, try not to stress too much until you hear something official. Focus on what you can control, not the whispers.
