Venting: Seriously considering leaving before the axe falls

I'm so done with this constant anxiety. Every few months it's the same cycle of rumors, hushed conversations, and vague assurances from leadership. I'm a PM on the Office team, been here for 3 years. Honestly, I'm good at what I do, but the constant threat of layoffs is exhausting. I'm starting to think it's better to jump ship now and find a company that values its employees and isn't constantly looking for ways to cut costs. Anyone else feeling the same way? Considering just taking a chance on a smaller startup. Screw the stock options and 'prestige', I just want some job security for once!

I hear you. The uncertainty is the worst. I'm not in Office, but I've got friends who are, and they're saying similar things. Three years is a solid run – if you've got a good resume and some savings, it might be worth exploring other options. A less stressful environment is priceless. Honestly, this happens at every large company. It's part of the deal. Unless you're willing to take a pay cut for a smaller, more stable place, you'll likely encounter the same cycles of anxiety elsewhere. Use the resources they offer – career counseling, resume workshops – and prepare for the worst, but don't jump ship prematurely. The grass isn't always greener, and Microsoft still has perks and opportunities others don't.
