Is the pipeline pivot actually working or just a distraction?

It feels like every week there’s another town hall about our new direction, but the actual day-to-day operations feel increasingly chaotic. Ever since the funding changes hit, it seems like we’re throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, while simultaneously slashing the R&D staff who actually do the work. Is anyone else feeling like the pivot to non-vaccine mRNA is a bit of a reach given the current burn rate? We’re losing institutional knowledge with every one of these small layoffs, and I’m genuinely concerned that we’re hollowing out the core team to look better for the shareholders in the short term. I’m tired of the 'we’re a lean, agile machine' rhetoric when we can’t even get basic cross-departmental alignment anymore. Just curious if anyone in the newer programs is actually seeing meaningful progress or if we're just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic at this point.

The leadership seems obsessed with optics over substance. They keep selling this 'bold new vision' to investors, but anyone on the ground can see we’re just scrambling to fill the revenue gap left by the post-COVID decline. Cutting the very people who have the technical expertise to actually execute these new modalities is short-sighted at best. We are burning through our remaining cash and talent faster than we can validate these new targets, and morale is hitting an all-time low because no one knows which project will be on the chopping block next week.

I actually think the pivot is necessary, even if the transition period is brutal. Relying solely on the COVID platform wasn't sustainable long-term, and the company had to diversify into oncology and rare diseases eventually. The operational chaos is a byproduct of trying to shift the entire business model while the public market is demanding immediate profitability. It’s definitely painful, but I’d rather see them try to evolve the platform than just sit back and watch our relevance evaporate. Hopefully, the leaner structure helps us focus on the few programs that actually have a shot at market success.
