I'm in a different team, but I've noticed similar things. The sudden freeze on everything is definitely raising eyebrows. Layoffs are always a possibility in this market, unfortunately. My advice would be to quietly update your resume and start networking, just in case. It's better to be prepared than caught off guard. Look at it as an opportunity to explore other options, even if nothing happens at MongoDB.
You're probably reading too much into it. Every company goes through periods of uncertainty. Travel budgets are often the first thing to be cut when profits are down. As for the "voluntary" departures, people leave jobs all the time for various reasons. I'd suggest not panicking and focusing on your work. Constant worrying won't change anything and will only make you miserable. Wait and see what happens; speculation is usually pointless.
