Anyone else noticing the odd uptick in 'strategic realignments'?

Is it just my org, or has the language around quarterly goals become noticeably more aggressive lately? I’ve been through a few cycles here, and whenever the focus shifts from 'growth' to 'relentless operational efficiency' in every single team sync, it usually precedes a rough Q3 or Q4. My manager is suddenly obsessed with granular status reports that honestly don’t seem to be going anywhere up the chain. I’ve noticed a few senior engineers I respect spending a lot of time updating their LinkedIn profiles, which is never a great signal. Could be nothing, but the vibes feel very similar to the lead-up to the last round of adjustments. Curious if other departments are seeing this intensity shift or if I’m just reading too much into the current macro environment. If anyone has heard anything concrete or is just feeling the same anxiety, let me know. I’m trying to decide if it’s time to start grinding on LeetCode again or if I’m just being paranoid.

It’s wild how quickly the tone changes when the roadmap shifts to 'operational efficiency.' I’ve noticed the same pattern with our MongoDB clusters. Suddenly, there’s this obsession with cutting costs on Atlas and micro-optimizing every single query as if a few milliseconds of latency are the reason for the quarterly slump. When management starts auditing indexes and connection pools with that level of intensity, it’s rarely about actual technical debt—it’s about looking busy while they prepare to trim the headcount. Update your resume while you still have the energy to care about the codebase.
