Severance package question - what to expect?

Hypothetically speaking, if layoffs were to happen at MongoDB, what kind of severance package could one expect? I'm in a senior engineering role, been here for 5 years. I know every company is different, but I'm trying to get a sense of what's typical in the industry, especially for a company of MongoDB's size. Is it usually weeks per year of service? Are benefits extended for a certain period? Any insights or experiences shared would be greatly appreciated. Trying to be prepared, just in case the rumors are true. Also, does unused PTO usually get paid out?

Generally, you can expect at least 2 weeks per year of service at a larger tech company like MongoDB. Often it scales up a bit for senior roles. Benefits continuation for a month or two is also pretty standard, sometimes longer if you negotiate. Don't be afraid to ask questions if it happens, and remember they may be willing to negotiate on some aspects of the package. Good luck!

Honestly, don't get your hopes up too high. While some companies offer generous packages, it really depends on their financial situation and the specific layoff situation. I've seen companies try to get away with the bare minimum legal requirements, especially if they're doing a big restructuring. Start updating your resume now, just in case. Always good to be proactive instead of reacting late. Network now so you're not behind!
