Worst case severance scenario? Preparing for the worst.

Throwaway account here for obvious reasons. I've been with Moody's for 7 years, in the corporate solutions group. We haven't had any official announcements, but the rumors have been flying for weeks, and frankly, my role feels pretty vulnerable. My manager has been cagey, and I've been mentally preparing for the possibility of being let go. Does anyone have any concrete info or personal experience with severance packages at Moody's? What's the typical breakdown? Severance pay (weeks per year of service?), continuation of benefits (health insurance duration?), outplacement services? Trying to get a realistic picture of what to expect if the worst happens. I've started updating my resume and networking, but understanding the financial cushion is key to my planning right now. Any insights would be hugely appreciated. Don't want to be caught completely off guard.

Hey, I get the anxiety, especially with the rumor mill churning. While I can't speak directly to Moody's specifics, in general, severance packages can be pretty variable. Some companies offer a base number of weeks plus additional weeks per year of service. Others might include continued health benefits or outplacement services. It's definitely wise to start thinking about it now. If you have any documentation outlining your benefits or employment contract, that might offer some clues. Hang in there and try to stay informed if possible.

Honestly, hearing about 'rumors' and 'cagey managers' makes me a little skeptical about anyone having 'concrete info' on severance. Companies rarely telegraph these things, and when they do happen, the packages can be surprisingly different even within the same firm depending on the level and circumstances. Your best bet is to document your contributions and performance meticulously. If something does happen, having that record can be invaluable, whether you're negotiating or just trying to understand your value. Don't rely solely on rumors.
