Year-end performance reviews feel extra tense this year

So, performance reviews are coming up, and honestly, the vibe feels different this year. Usually, it's a bit of a formality, but now it feels like there's a lot more scrutiny. People are talking about how 'impactful' their contributions were and really emphasizing metrics. Some teams seem to be getting more attention than others. I'm wondering if this is just my imagination or if the firm is really tightening things up ahead of potential headcount adjustments. Has anyone else noticed their manager or senior leadership being more intense during prep for reviews? It's making me a little anxious about my own standing, especially with all the background noise about the market and deal flow. Just looking for some shared experiences here.

Definitely feeling the same way. It's not just you. The emphasis on 'impact' and metrics feels amplified, almost to the point of being performative. Conversations are less about collaboration and more about individual achievements that can be quantified. It's creating an undercurrent of anxiety, for sure. I've heard whispers about restructuring and how performance is a key factor, which explains the increased scrutiny. Trying to stay positive but it’s tough when the goalposts seem to be shifting constantly.
