Quiet departures or just turnover?

Is it just me, or has the office felt strangely quiet lately? I’ve noticed a few names missing from the directory in the past two weeks, and nobody seems to be talking about where they went. Management is sticking to the usual 'refining our strategy' script during town halls, but the lack of transparency is starting to get to everyone. I’ve been here for a few years and the atmosphere definitely feels heavier than it did during the last cycle. Are we bracing for a headcount reduction, or is this just the normal churn of people getting tired of the current leadership direction? Would love to know if anyone else in the tech or ops departments is seeing these departures or if I'm just reading into things too much.

It is definitely not just you. I have been watching the directory too, and it feels like every time I refresh, another person has vanished. The silence from leadership is the most frustrating part. They love to talk about 'operational efficiency' and 'synergies' until they need to actually explain why teams are suddenly being hollowed out. At this point, it feels like they are just waiting for enough people to quit on their own so they do not have to announce a formal layoff. The morale is hitting rock bottom.

I honestly think it is just the typical post-merger cycle repeating itself. When the strategy starts shifting this abruptly, the quiet exits are usually the first sign of a larger plan in motion. Management has always preferred the 'refining' narrative over being honest about the actual headcount goals. Just keep your head down, update your resume, and start networking outside the company while you still have access. It is rarely just a coincidence when multiple people disappear in the same two-week window.
