Northern Trust: Layoff rumors - what's the scoop?

Okay, I'm going to just put it out there. I've heard from a couple of sources, not direct but close enough that I'm starting to believe it, that some layoffs are happening or are imminent at Northern Trust. No specific numbers or departments mentioned, just a general 'cost-cutting' or 'performance management' type of situation. It's frustrating because leadership isn't being transparent. We get the usual platitudes about 'adapting to the market' and 'investing in the future,' but it feels like code for something more significant. I've been trying to connect the dots based on what I'm seeing internally – fewer open reqs, some roles not being backfilled, increased workload on existing teams. Has anyone else heard concrete information or experienced anything that confirms these rumors? Trying to prepare myself and my colleagues if this is indeed the path we're heading down. Appreciate any and all insights, even if it's just anecdotal observations.

I'm not surprised to hear this. There's been a lot of internal chatter about restructuring and efficiency drives for a while now. It's tough when you're on the receiving end, or even just waiting for news, and leadership communication is so vague. Makes it hard to plan or even just feel secure in your role. Hopefully, if it is happening, they handle it with some dignity for those affected. Transparency would at least help everyone else understand the situation better.

Heard similar whispers myself. It's always a bit unnerving when these kinds of rumors start circulating, especially without any concrete information. The 'cost-cutting' angle makes sense given the current economic climate, but the lack of clear communication from management is definitely a point of frustration for many. Let's hope for the best, but prepare for potential changes.
