Anyone else seeing the slow creep of RIFs lately?

It feels like we’re back to the quiet, death-by-a-thousand-cuts approach. I’ve been tracking these smaller WARN notices popping up across the country, and it’s unsettling how they don’t make headlines until it’s already done. The Cleveland reduction earlier this year was just five people, but it sets the tone. Everyone is acting like we’re untouchable because of the current geopolitical climate, but leadership is clearly looking at headcount optimization to prop up margins. It’s hard to stay focused on deliverables when you’re constantly wondering if your department is next on the chopping block. Management loves to talk about long-term stability and 'critical national infrastructure' needs, but that clearly doesn't translate into job security for the average engineer. Is anyone else noticing the hiring freezes in specific sectors, or am I just being paranoid? The silence from upper management is deafening. I’ve started updating my resume just in case, because I refuse to be caught off guard when the next round hits. Stay safe out there, everyone.

It is honestly exhausting to keep watching this play out. We are told the backlog is massive and the defense budget is climbing, yet somehow the axe keeps swinging under the guise of efficiency. It feels like the company is treating us like disposable line items to appease shareholders before the next quarterly call. When you see the small, quiet cuts happening across different departments, you realize no one is actually safe. It makes it really hard to give a damn about the mission when you know your badge might not work next month.

I think a lot of people are misreading the room by assuming our workload makes us secure. Leadership here doesn't care about the projects you're running or how many hours you put in; they only care about those margins. They’ve perfected the strategy of silent layoffs because it keeps the stock price stable while slowly gutting the workforce. If you aren't already updating your resume and looking at what else is out there, you are just waiting to be a statistic. Loyalty is a one-way street, and it’s clearly not heading toward us.
