I can't speak to the specifics at NVIDIA, but generally, severance packages are negotiable, especially if layoffs are widespread. Don't just accept the first offer. Document everything you've contributed to the company – quantifiable results are your friend. Also, start networking and updating your resume now. It's always better to be proactive. As for unvested stock, they're usually gone with the job, sadly, but confirm with HR.
Honestly, I wouldn't put too much stock in rumors. These whispers pop up all the time, and 9 times out of 10, they're just that – rumors. NVIDIA's been on a tear; it's unlikely they're going to be doing major cuts. Focus on your work and don't let the gossip distract you. If you're truly concerned, maybe discreetly check your network to see if recruiters are suddenly reaching out to former employees. That's a better indicator.
