Stagnant RSU vesting and hiring freezes

It’s getting pretty obvious that they’ve stopped backfilling departures. I’ve noticed three roles in my org that opened up after people left months ago, and they’ve all been quietly removed from the portal. It’s a classic sign, but I haven’t seen any official announcement regarding a broader workforce reduction. The rumors about a potential 'restructuring' are getting louder, though. Management keeps talking about 'operational excellence,' which we all know is just code for cutting headcount to appease shareholders before the next earnings call. I’ve been through this cycle at other semi companies before, and the pattern is almost identical. If they are planning to trim, I really wish they’d just rip the band-aid off instead of letting us sit in this limbo where nobody knows if their project is actually going to be funded for 2025. Anyone else noticing the same lack of hiring activity in their business units?

Same thing is happening in my division. We’ve had two senior engineers leave in the last quarter, and both requisitions were scrubbed from the portal almost immediately. Leadership keeps throwing around 'operational efficiency' during the town halls, but we all know the drill. It’s frustrating because we’re just expected to pick up the slack without any increase in comp. If they are planning a restructure, I wish they’d just rip the band-aid off so we aren't all constantly looking over our shoulders.

Honestly, the writing has been on the wall for a while now. The total freeze on backfills combined with the stagnant equity grants makes it feel like they’re trying to squeeze every cent out of the bottom line before the next quarterly report. It’s classic corporate theater. Everyone talks about the culture being great, but when the headcount starts shrinking without a formal announcement, morale just craters. I’m already polishing my resume because waiting for the 'restructuring' shoe to drop sounds like a waste of time.
