Anyone hearing whispers about Q4 headcounts?

It’s been suspiciously quiet on the floor lately. I’ve noticed a few more 'strategy review' meetings popping up on the calendars of middle management that just seem to drag on forever. Every time the oil price dips even a few cents, the rumor mill starts churning, but this feels a bit different than the usual cycle. I’ve been with OXY for a while now and I’ve learned to read the room, but the lack of clear direction from the top regarding the upcoming budget cycle has me putting my resume back in order just in case. Has anyone heard anything concrete or are we all just feeling the standard pre-earnings anxiety? I’m mostly worried about the support roles and the back-office functions that seem to be the primary targets whenever they want to 'streamline' operations. If you’ve heard anything regarding potential restructuring in the Permian or the corporate offices, please chime in. I’d rather be prepared than blindsided by an early morning Zoom call.

The shift in meeting cadence is definitely a tell. I’ve noticed the same trend in my department, and those 'strategy reviews' usually precede some form of organizational restructuring. Leadership has been tight-lipped, which only fuels the anxiety. It’s hard to focus on long-term projects when the air feels this heavy. Honestly, updating the resume is the smartest move right now; better to be prepared for a transition than caught off guard when the official announcement finally drops.

You're not imagining things. The atmosphere lately has been incredibly tense, and the lack of communication from leadership regarding Q4 is a major red flag. When management starts hiding behind vague calendar invites instead of addressing the budget, it usually means the numbers aren't what they want them to be. I’ve seen this playbook before at OXY. Keep your head down, keep your options open, and don't count on the usual corporate reassurances—they aren't coming this time.
