Anyone else noticing the travel budget lockdown?

Is it just my department or is everyone getting their travel requests shot down lately? I’ve been trying to get approval for a site visit that’s actually critical for project completion, but management is hitting me with the 'reviewing all non-essential spend' line again. It feels like we’re back in 2020 mode. Usually, when they squeeze the T&E this hard without an official announcement, it’s a precursor to something else. Are the field ops teams seeing this too, or is it just corporate holding the purse strings? Trying to gauge if I need to update my resume sooner rather than later.

Same here in the field. It’s been impossible to get budget approval for site visits lately, even when it’s clearly tied to project deadlines. Management keeps preaching about 'operational efficiency,' but we all know the drill. When they start pinching pennies on essential travel without any clear communication, it’s usually a signal that the quarterly numbers are tighter than they’re letting on. It definitely feels like we’re bracing for some internal belt-tightening measures, and it’s making the actual installation work a massive headache.

You're not imagining it. I’ve been hearing similar grumblings from different business units. It seems like the purse strings have been pulled way too tight, and the 'non-essential' tag is being slapped on everything regardless of project impact. At this point, I’m just trying to keep my head down and get through the cycle. If you’ve been here long enough, you know this usually precedes a hiring freeze or a broad restructuring effort. Just keep documenting your requests so it’s clear why things are stalling on your end.
