Anyone else noticing the odd uptick in 'strategic alignment' meetings?

Is it just me, or has the vibe in the office shifted over the last two weeks? Usually, we get the standard 'we are focused on Q4 goals' update, but the tone in our last department sync felt forced. Leadership kept harping on 'operational efficiency' and 'reallocating talent' rather than talking about specific projects. I’ve been through a few cycles at PACCAR before, and this specific brand of vague corporate speak usually precedes a formal announcement of a reduction in force. I checked the internal directory and it looks like a few roles in the engineering department haven't been backfilled for months. If you’re a contractor or a recent hire, stay alert. Has anyone else heard whispers of budget audits in their specific division? I’m trying to figure out if I’m just being paranoid or if the writing is actually on the wall.

I’ve been around long enough to know that 'reallocating talent' is just HR code for letting people go. When leadership stops discussing project deliverables and starts fixating on operational efficiency, it’s rarely a good sign. The timing right before the end of the year feels deliberate, likely to make the numbers look better for the annual reports. Keep your resume updated and make sure you’ve saved any personal documents you might need because the writing is definitely on the wall.

Honestly, the atmosphere has been suffocating lately. I’ve noticed the same shift in my department, and the constant buzzwords are exhausting. It feels like they are preparing for something big, and it’s definitely not a positive pivot. The lack of transparency from management is the most frustrating part; they act like we don't notice the change in tone. At this point, I’m just waiting for the shoe to drop. If you’re feeling nervous, trust your gut—you’re likely not overthinking it.
