Has anyone seen the recent travel budget restrictions?

Is anyone else getting hit with the new travel approval process? My manager just told me that all non-essential travel is being scrutinized at the VP level starting this week. Usually, when they start pinching pennies on T&E like this, it’s a precursor to a wider tightening of the belt. I’ve been at PACCAR for five years and this feels exactly like the mood right before the last major restructuring. We’ve been told projects are 'on track,' but the vibe in the meetings is noticeably tense. I’m just trying to figure out if this is standard fiscal year-end caution or if I should start dusting off the resume. Anyone else seeing similar lock-downs in their specific department?

I've noticed the same shift in the last two weeks. It feels like we are suddenly back in a survival mode we haven't seen in a while. My team had a conference trip pulled at the last second despite having the budget allocated months ago. If you look at how they handled the last downturn, these administrative hurdles are definitely a classic tell. Start updating your documents now; there is no sense in waiting for an official announcement when the writing is already on the wall for everyone to see.

Honestly, I wouldn't panic just yet. Every time the quarterly numbers dip or there’s a supply chain hiccup, they tighten the T&E screws. It’s their default move to keep the balance sheet looking pretty for the shareholders. It’s annoying, sure, but it doesn't automatically mean mass layoffs are coming. We’ve been through these cycles before, and usually, it just means a few boring months of Zoom meetings instead of in-person travel. Keep your head down and focus on the deliverables; the project pressure is just part of the PACCAR culture.
